Sari Dell returned from Jordan filled with enthusiasm and eager to tell us about her travels.Wadi Rum desert landscape. Image shot 2008. Exact date unknown.

“In September I had the opportunity to fulfil the wanderlust dream of my childhood – a visit to Jordan.

Few countries can offer as much diversity as Jordan does.

From north to south it is only a 6 hour drive and yet it packs so much into its small land mass: the historical sites of Jerash and Petra, the unique floating experience at the Dead Sea and the chance of spotting the Milky Way over Wadi Rum.

Not forgetting the friendly, welcoming people and the mouth-watering food (whether it was a simple mezze or the local speciality dish of mansaf) – I loved it all.

Wadi_Ibn_Hamad_3_resizedIt’s tough to pick a favourite in Jordan, but the highlight of the week for me was trekking in Dana Nature Reserve – a stunning display of Mother Nature at her best.

Expertly lead by a knowledgeable Bedouin guide, we trekked 10 miles through a totally isolated rugged landscape.

We even spotted the illusive Nubian ibex, enjoyed a delicious camp fire lunch en-route and had the chance to ride a goat herder’s donkey surrounded by his bleating goats. Little donkey on a very dusty road…

Jordan completely stole my heart and I hope I may return there very soon.
