I expected a beautiful location, but it was a lot more than that… completely spectacular!
We were advised by Tony the House Manager that the walk over Tennyson Down to the Needles and Alum Bay was the best walk on the island. So, armed with maps and route notes borrowed from the Discovery Point at the house, – these had photos of where we were supposed to be going which made them really easy to follow.
We set off, climbing up through pretty woodland to reach Tennyson Down and the Tennyson Monument at the top.
It was a glorious day and from this point we were able to see the whole island spread out below us and look across to the south coast of England. We continued along the coast path to the Needles, a set of separate white chalk rocks and a lighthouse which marks the Isle of Wight’s most westerly point. From there we headed down to Alum Bay with its stripey coloured rock, stopping on the beach to enjoy our delicious packed lunch.
From there we headed back up to Tennyson Down and back to the house where we all enjoyed a well-earned cup of tea from the Dandelion Café! A super day.
Thank you Michelle for sharing your tale of adventure on the Isle of Wight.
